About Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)

It is a Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) in India.
It was set up under an Act of the Parliament of India on 10 March 1969.
Initially, the strength of CISF is 2,800 and was increased to 1,77,713 as of 01.06.2024.
Works under Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India.
CISF has 74 other formations including 12 reserve battalions and 08 training institutes.
CISF was subsequently made an armed force.
It is directly under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
Its headquarters are at New Delhi.
Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) – Rajwinder Singh Bhatti until September 30, 2025.
Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) provides security to critical infrastructure such as airports, metro networks, and power plants.

Increase of no. of Battalion
- Each battalion will consist of 1,025 personnel. With this addition, the total number of CISF battalions will increase from 13 to 15.
Women CISF Reserve Battalion
- In November last year, the government had sanctioned the first-ever all-women CISF reserve battalion comprising more than 1,000 personnel.
