The 30th January is the day in India to honour recognised martyr of our country. On this day, the President, Prime Minister, Defence Minister and the Defence Staff gathers at Raj Ghat to pay tribute and observes a 2-minute silence.
About Martyr’s Day
The 30th January is recognised nationally as Martyr’s Day to mark the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi in 1948, by Nathuram Godse. This day is also known as Sarvodaya day or Shaheed Diwas.
On this day, the President, the Vice President, the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister, the Chief of Defence Staff and the 3 Service Chiefs gathers at the Raj Ghat memorial and offers a floral tribute decorated with multicolored flowers.
On this day, a 2-minute silence in memory of Indian martyrs is observed throughout the country. Participants hold all-religion prayers and sing tributes. The tribute is paid to the Indian martyrs on this day.
Like India, the martyrs day is also observed in other countries in the world including USA, Japan, Brazil, Canada and Australia mainly to recognise the martyrs such as soldiers, revolutionaries or victims of genocide.
